And like those babes of the prophecies, they had the appearance of men already old, and in the prophecy they were the quadruped children, and the ghosts, and the embryos that were to prophesy in the mothers’ wombs uttering magic spells. And all has been written, do you know that? And the children of that time (which is this) will no longer have anyone to administer their goods and preserve food in their storerooms, and they will be harassed in the markets of buying and selling. Then will come the son of perdition, the enemy who boasts and swells up, displaying many virtues to deceive the whole earth and to prevail over the just. Syria will fall and mourn her sons. The daughter of Babylon will rise from the throne of her splendor to drink from the cup of bitterness. Barbarian camps and war chariots will appear on all sides to occupy the lands. Youths will die by the sword, girl children will be taken prisoner, sons and daughters will commit incest. On every side will appear abomination and desolation, the Antichrist will defeat the West and will destroy the trade routes; in his hand he will have sword and raging fire, and in violent fury the flame will burn: his strength will be blasphemy, his hand treachery, the right hand will be ruin, the left the bearer of darkness. These are the features that will mark him: his head will be of burning fire, his right eye will be bloodshot, his left eye a feline green with two pupils, and his eyebrows will be white, his lower lip swollen, his ankle weak, his feet big, his thumb crushed and elongated!

It is the moment, when everything will fall into lawlessness, sons will raise their hands against fathers, wives will plot against husbands, husbands will bring wives to law, masters will be inhuman to servants and servants will disobey their masters, there will be no more respect for the old, the young will demand to rule, work will seem a useless chore to all, everywhere songs will rise praising license, vice, dissolute liberty of behavior. And after that, rape, adultery, perjury, sins against nature will follow in a great wave, and disease, and soothsaying, and spells, and flying bodies will appear in the heavens, in the midst of the good Christians false prophets will rise, false apostles, corrupters, impostors, wizards, rapists, usurers, perjurers and falsifiers; the shepherds will turn into wolves, priests will lie, monks will desire things of this world, the poor will not hasten to the aid of their lords, the powerful will be without mercy, the just will bear witness to injustice. All cities will be shaken by earthquakes, there will be pestilence in every land, storm winds will uproot the earth, the fields will be contaminated, the sea will secrete black humors, new and strange wonders will take place upon the moon, the stars will abandon their courses, other stars—unknown—will furrow the sky, it will snow in summer, and in winter the heat will be intense. And the times of the end will have come, and the end of time. ... On the first day at the third hour in the firmament a great and powerful voice will be raised, a purple cloud will advance from the north, thunder and lightning will follow it, and on the earth a rain of blood will fall. On the second day the earth will be uprooted from its seat and the smoke of a great fire will pass through the gates of the sky. On the third day the abysses of the earth will rumble from the four corners of the cosmos. And there will then be the judgment of the just and their ascent, in the eternal bliss of bodies and souls. But this is not the object of your meditation this evening, proud brothers! It is not sinners who will see the dawn of the eighth day, when a sweet and tender voice will rise from the east, in the midst of the heavens, and that angel will be seen who commands all the other holy angels, and all the angels will advance together with him, seated on a chariot of clouds, filled with joy, speeding through the air, to set free the blessed who have believed, and all together they will rejoice because the destruction of this world will have been consummated! But this is not to make us rejoice proudly this evening! We will meditate instead on the words the Lord will utter to drive from him those who have not earned salvation: “Far from me, ye accursed, into the eternal fire that has been prepared for you by the Devil and his ministers) You yourselves have earned it, and now enjoy it! Go ye from me, descending into the eternal darkness and into the unquenchable fire! I made you and you became followers of another! You became servants of another lord, go and dwell with him in the darkness, with him, the serpent who never rests, amid the gnashing of teeth! I gave you ears to hear the Scripture and you listened to the words of pagans! I formed a mouth for you to glorify God, and you used it for the lies of poets and the riddles of buffoons! I gave you eyes to see the light of my precepts, and you used them to peer into the darkness! I am a humane judge, but a just one. To each I shall give what he deserves. I would have mercy on you, but I find no oil in your jars. I would be impelled to take pity, but your lamps are not cleaned. Go from me...” Thus will speak the Lord. And we will descend into the eternal torment. In the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen!

Äntligen! Skivan skulle ha varit ute i november, men bättre sent än aldrig. Tröjan är väl dock kanske lite för mkt Ed Hardy och lite för lite knallemarknad.

Läst lite i boken under morgonen och än så länge så känns det faktiskt mest som att kapitlet om Dead och kanske det om Watain är det som har något extra. Och naturligtvis det om Dissection. I övrigt är det lite... Det är bra intervjuer men det är lite dåligt problematiserat här och där. Tror att författarna hade kunnat göra bättre ifrån sig om de hade läst typ Extreme Metal av Keith Kahn-Harris. Nu faller en del av resonemangen bort innan de knappt blivit synliggjorda. Saker avslutas innan de ens börjat förklara något. Lite mera teori på fötterna, helt enkelt. De gjorde bra ifrån sig i det där Shining-kapitlet där de snackade med en psykolog som fick hjälpa till att förklara varför. De borde ha kunnat göra något liknande i ganska många av kapitlen. Framförallt tänker jag på kapitlet med lite genustema och det som handlade om högerextremism. Kahn-Harris skrev bra om det. De hade kunnat ha ett kapitel om satanism eller så hade de på ett effektivare sätt kunnat baka in förklaringar om precis vad som avses med uttryck som satanism och djävulsdyrkan i sammanhanget. Det är liksom i kontexten inga oviktiga grejer och det finns en hel del duktiga människor inte ens en armlängd bort som hade kunnat hjälpa till med sådana förklaringar. Att t ex. låtit någon religionshistoriker kommentera intervjun med Jon och beskriva Watains (såväl som Jons) satanism i någon form av system hade inte skadat och hade nog kunnat förklara hur det blev som det blev: hur det kom sig att en genre som handlade om att festa, ha kul och bejaka livet utvecklades till sin (lika passionerade men ändå) diametrala motsats. Man hade även kunnat läsa t ex. den här bloggen för att få en lite djupare bild av Euronymous än bara 'killen som drev Dead till att ta livet av sig' ("In retrospect," Butcher muses. "I think Øystein was shocked by Dead's suicide. And taking the photograph was the only way he could cope with it, like, 'if I have to see this, then everybody else has to see it too'."). Fast jag har väl blivit skadad av all kurslitteratur, kan man tänka. Och jag har inte läst boken ordentligt heller. Eller ens hela. Plus att jag har läst kapitlen huller om buller. Men det är en bra bok och bättre än t ex. Lords of Chaos. Den hade bara kunnat vara lite bättre.

På frågan om "hur praktiserar Watain sin satanism egentligen" som ställdes någonstans (alltså, inte i boken utan någonstans ute på the interwebz) så skulle jag som utomstående tro att den praktiseras genom att medlemmarna s a s gör och är Watain på daglig basis. Att vara Watain är att praktisera satanism samt en katalysator för den. Skapandet och förverkligandet av samt lyssnandet på konsten är en religiös handling och upplevelse (Deena Weinstein har skrivit en artikel om rock som religion där hon tar upp det här. Den hittas säkert genom Jstore eller liknande). Det är ganska ointressant att veta hur det gör det i övrigt (om man då jämför med andra religioners religiösa praktiker/sedvanor/uttryckssätt). Vad jag menar med det är att det är inte särskilt intressant (alls) att veta hur kristna eller muslimer ber, det intressanta är att veta varför. Som Erik själv tog upp så är det inte alls särskilt intressant att aghorikulten äter människokött, det intressanta är varför. Sen så är ju Watains satanisms uppenbara likheter med t ex. Dissection's kaosgnosticism (och även delar av det tankegods en sådan syn delar med t ex. den tidiga gnosticismen, hermeticismen samt hinduiska och hellenistiska idéer om gudomligheter som avspeglingar av en större gudomlig sanning) sådan att jag tycker att frågan inte ens behöver ställas, om man nu inte är sådan att man tycker att det är viktigt att folk gör saker med svarta ljus medan de är iförda kåpor. Man bör även i det hela betänka en såpass viktig men bortglömd sak som det faktum att vi i Sverige ändå är uppvuxna i ett relativt kristet land där, även om ingen längre är troende, vissa former av kristet beteende fortfarande sitter i oss. Jag tänker i det här fallet på kristendomens ortodoxi (rätt tänkande) jämfört med islams och judendomens ortopraxi (rätt handling). Då nästan alla inblandade i boken är uppvuxna under ungefär samma omständigheter som mig och därför (antar jag iskallt) blivit påverkade av den värld vi lever i så tycker jag själv att det på många sätt klargör vad som kan kallas för satanism: det är ortodoxi som (nu mer än någonsin, får jag intrycket av) spelar roll, och här menar jag ortodoxi i en väldigt vid bemärkelse som inte alls bara innehåller avgränsade koncept som 'tanke' utan även innehåller saker som känslor och andlighet. Det förklarar också varför varför är intressantare än hur.

Nåja. Jag rekommenderar även den här intervjun med spanska Teitanblood som kanske kan ha någon form av illuminerande verkan på någon. Jag vet inte. Jag tycker att det beskrivs klockrent i den iaf.

On a total side note: har återupptäckt Those Poor Bastards.

Väldigt speciellt band. Goth country. Ond amerikansk folkmusik. Tyvärr håller de sällan en hel skiva rakt igenom, men när man väljer ut sina favvolåtar och gör en spellista så kan det vara ganska så skitbra. Det jobbiga är bara att jag måste lyssna igenom alla skivorna igen och välja ut godbitarna (även om länken ovan innehåller några av mina favoriter som jag kom på ba sådär).




EDIT: Ja just det! Bob Wayne and the Outlaw Carnies spelar ju på Lilla Hotellbaren (ni vet, Scandic Hotells bakficka) på torsdag! Inte så himla mycket hygglig mediamedelklassfinamericana utan riktig jävla white trash country. Kanske inte alltid så jävla bra egentligen och ibland långt ifrån texter jag ens kan börja hålla med om (skämskudde när han börjar sjunga om hur fint USA är osv). Men ändå. Har ni för övrigt tänkt på att white trash är den enda 'racial slur' som är OK i USA? Jävla lätt att hata fattig och vit arbetar/underklass. Vem står upp för folk som gillar vargtröjor, meth och Ullared, liksom? Jag menar, ajg kommer på mig själv med att göra det rätt ofta. Nåja, jag ska hursomhelst dit. Öppnar vid sju, går på scenen vid 20:30-21:00. För de som bryr sig så är det någon form av rockabilly-klubb på BO före/efter/under tiden, om man är lagd åt det hållet. Själv är jag rätt glad över att min kusin kommer hit. Det är alldeles för sällan jag träffar honom.

The Return of Darkness and Evil

Som bekant så ska Watain spela i Sthlm i slutet av månaden. Idag fick jag dock reda på att om det blir slutsålt (vilket jag är förvånad över att det inte redan är) så flyttas spelningen till Arenan. Och det skulle innebära att de kan köra med hela scenshowen, med eld och allt. Och det vill man ju. Så köp biljetter nu. Glöm inte att även Deströyer 666, Ghost och Repugant ska spela, dvs du får totalt 4 svinbra band på en och samma kväll. För 300:-.
